Time settings on your computer are designed to adjust automatically to the DST if you are in a supported region. Sometimes, the computer can not adjust to daylight savings time and needs Internet access to sync with the time servers. However, you can make a few modifications so that your computer will adjust to daylight savings time.
How to Fix Computer Not Adjusting to Daylight Savings Time?
Before you conclude that your computer is not adjusting to Daylight Savings Time (DST), ensure you are in a geography that uses the DST feature. Not every country and timezone in the world uses this feature. With DST, your computer’s time should be an hour faster starting from 02:00 AM, the second Sunday of March. Meanwhile, DST ends at 02:00 AM, the first Sunday of November, and the system time will revert to the standard time. When DST is on, it automatically makes the changes, and you don’t need to adjust the clock. As reported by many people in the tech forums, if your computer is not adjusting automatically to DST, it might be due to a glitch in your OS. So, you may have to wait sometime after a reboot before the device syncs with the Internet. Or, you can manually sync with the Internet time servers.
Correct Your Time Zone
You should first make sure the time zone is set correctly on your time settings. If your geography uses the daylight saving feature, selecting a different time zone than where you actually reside will disable it. You can either use the Windows settings or Control Panel to correct the time zone.
From Settings
From Control Panel
Synchronize with Internet Time
If changing the time zone from Settings or Control Panel did not work, you can also synchronize your system’s time with the Internet time. Windows provides two options for this:
Windows time server NIST time server
Windows time server synchronizes time with the time of computers on the network. In comparison, the NIST time server is a top public time server located in Colorado, US. It uses atomic clocks to provide accurate time across the world. You can choose either of them. You can use the other if one does not seem to work.If synchronizing with the Internet time still does not work, you don’t need to panic. It mostly happens if a time server value is missing from the registry. You can simply add a new time server value and get the DST back.
Tweak Registry Values
Next, you can check if the DST feature is disabled in the registry editor. The feature is, by default, enabled on the registry. However, if it has been deleted or the value data has been modified accidentally or by malware, you can not use it. But before you tweak the registry settings, make sure you create a backup of your registry.
